What do I look for in finding a body & paint shop to restore and paint my classic car?

go to car shows and look at the cars with nice paint jobs and ask them where they got them painted. What do I look for in finding a body %26amp; paint shop to restore and paint my classic car?
i am in that buisness....and i have to tell you it is a difficult thing. most regular production body shops are not set up real well for restorations, some really don't know what the word means....most will set your car back in the corner as soon as a good insurance job comes in. you are best off with an actual ';restorer';, listen to what his reputation is, don't take him offf the list because of one bad story, every one will have a bad story, nature of the game.....make progress payments, so that the money is coming in as progress is made..don't be put off by a messy shop or impressed by a nice clean professional shop, many of the best restorers work out of the worst shops..think it has to do with detail...restorers need to concern themselves with fine detail to be good, they tend to do that throughout their lives, sometimes this means big things are not tended to...';tunnel vision';....the very thing that makes them good makes them appear bad.....figure to pay more than expected, expect it to take longer than promised...and make a plan. i am currrrantly working on a book on this subject because the problems are so frequent and so predictable. What do I look for in finding a body %26amp; paint shop to restore and paint my classic car?

Good references.

I'm sure u can find online forums for ur car make, join and then ask around. Also check Yelp! for reviews on potential shops.

Good luck!
